Ruka's Somatic Class is one of the most popular classes during the Alice Festival, so he has to help out a lot. However, he escapes during class to see Natsume, who skipped and is not allowed to participate in the festival. Along with Sumire and Youichi, Ruka goes to the hospital to see Natsume, who has fallen sick due to his illness. Later on, when Natsume is kidnapped by Reo, he helps Mikan and Sumire escape by having his bird friends distract their pursers. He stays in the teachers lounge with Hotaru and the teachers to keep in touch with Mikan about the situation. When Natsume denotiates the warehouse in anger over how Reo's men injured Mikan, they are returned to the academy and hospitalized. Ruka visits Mikan and thanks her for saving Natsume, showing his acceptance towards her and the first sign of his liking to her.
